Mid Sussex District Council

We are seeking 3 members of the public to work alongside the Council’s Standards Committee.  The role involves working with the Council’s Monitoring Officer, assisting those wishing to make a complaint about any elected Member serving our Towns, Parishes or District, and helping those elected Members in receipt of a complaint to find solutions acceptable to all parties.

The Council and its Members strongly believe in high standards in public life. The seven principles are set out in our constitution and we are looking for the right people to ensure we have independent input into the work of the Standards Committee.

If you have a wish to serve the local community and uphold local democracy, have high standards of personal integrity and the ability to be objective, independent and impartial then this may be the role for you.

The voluntary role is for a 4-year term from April 2024 and an annual allowance of £750 plus travel costs is paid. The commitment would include a willingness to attend approximately 3 evening meetings per annum, plus ad hoc sub committees if required and availability on the phone and e-mail.

If you would like to discuss the role in more detail, please contact Kevin Toogood, Monitoring Officer at kevin.toogood@midsussex.gov.uk for an informal chat.
