Are you a dynamic individual who wishes to build a career in environmental health? We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic individual to become an environmental health apprentice and join our friendly and supportive team.
Role Overview:
Along with studying for the Environmental Health Practitioner Degree Apprenticeship over 4 years delivered by University of West of England at their Weston Super Mare campus you will work in our Environmental Health team and assist in the varied and wide range of activities we undertake from investigating complaints about noise, monitoring air pollution, inspecting food businesses, investigating accidents at work, monitoring and improving housing conditions, providing grant assistance and the licensing of premises and taxis.
Key Responsibilities:
- To undertake the Environmental Health Practitioner Apprenticeship; includes attendance at lectures, tutorials, seminars, in-person or remotely, to achieve a BSc in Environmental Health and the Apprenticeship Standard.
- To work within all Environmental Health team disciplines (Food and Safety, Environmental Protection, Housing Standards, Licensing and technical Support) while working towards the completion of the academic qualifications.
- To assist officers with the inspection of premises, the investigation of complaints, responding to service requests and determining the most appropriate statutory enforcement action.
- To be responsible for organising a balanced programme of work, prioritising workload to ensure response times/deadlines are met.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Educated to A level or an equivalent level 3 qualification and at least 5 GCSEs at grade C or above (or equivalent) including English and Maths
- A team player who is able to develop effective working relationships
- Enthusiasm, resilience, and a collaborative approach to problem-solving.
- Ability to work under pressure, good organisational skills and able to manage workload in an efficient, effective manner.
